A Space of My Own: Come Celebrate With Me!

I have my own space!

I’m so excited to share this: I have my very own space.

There’s something special about having a place that’s truly yours. A place you get to shape, fill with meaning, and open up to others. That’s what this has been for me. The building may be familiar to some of you. I used to sublease space here with a Chinese medicine doctor who moved closer to her home, and now I’m thrilled to have an office of my own!

A space of my own made me think about what the true message is that I want to give when people walk through the doors, which I've discovered is a feeling of peace, hope, and belonging.

I’m also still seeing people at my space in Boulder every Tuesday, so that location isn’t going anywhere. The address there is: 350 Broadway St, Suite 100, Boulder, CO  80305.

A building full of people living their passions

The Denver office building, located near the crossroads of I-25 and Colorado Blvd., is home to many healthcare practitioners, including a craniosacral therapist and massage therapists, along with all kinds of other businesses. Being the extreme extrovert that I am, I’m so glad to be surrounded by people.

Just yesterday, a group of Polynesian dancers who rent space here hosted an event with free Tahitian and Hawaiian dance lessons (Chip, my husband, was complimented on his form), plus a free standing Pilates lesson. My heart is happy being around people who are living their passions and promoting health. Down the hall from them is a woman who has started a community center simply to bring people together over puzzles and crafts.

The building owner’s is an interesting person. His real passions are Brazilian samba guitar and jazz, and he’s even made a couple of movies. I am also heartened that people here fill their cup outside of work with their passions.

We also have a cafe on the first floor that's owned by a Venezuelan family. The two sisters run the cafeteria, and their parents, who are going to be my new Spanish language conversation partners, also work alongside them. It's really sweet. They have really good Venezuelan food, and, while initially I was annoyed because it takes long (15 minutes) to get the food, I  later realized they're making it fresh—and they even delivered the food to my suite. : )

Making the space my own

From my office, I can see the mountains, which pleases me to no end. Designing the space has been fun, too. Decorating isn’t usually my forte, but I’ve loved gathering stuff (not too much stuff! Inside joke about this book) that carry history and meaning:

  • A chair made by my friend Jeff, who is an incredible carpenter.

  • A kettle I first spotted on Andrew Weil and his daughter Diana Weil’s Substack. I asked my siblings to give it to me, and my brother responded "For a proletariat, you have expensive (but good) taste." Hahahaha! Siblings, they keep you humble.

  • A cute, very stylish watering can I fell in love with in a Seattle shop my mother-in-law took me to. My siblings gifted me this one too.

  • Paintings by my husband and my stepdaughter, which hang on my walls.

I won’t share too many pictures of the office, because I’d rather you see it in person.

My hope for this space

My hope is that this space brings warmth. I want everyone who walks in to feel they belong here, in a place that helps them tap into their own healing self.
